I keep the eggs in my kitchen cabinet (cool dry place). Eggs will last depending on how much you use or feed to your fish. I mix the water just like i would for my tank, 1 gallon of water, 1/2 cup of salt, shake very well, propper amount of buffer, drop in air stone let cycle for about an hour and water parimeters should be perfect, then add to kit. I use pro buffer dkh they seem to hatch quicker and more eggs hatch also, also use treated water with prime.

Thank you for your question about the Shrimpery Kits. The brine shrimp eggs normally last quite a long time and currently the packaging we have available for shipping says to use by February 2015. The hatch mix does not need any special handling and we would only recommend that you keep this at room temperature.

Question

How Many Packets of Hatchery Mix does the Kit come with?

Do we have to use an opened mix all at once, or can we refrigerate some for future uses? And when would the product (re: Kit) be back in stock - 30th April?

Thank you in advance,
Kevin.

answer 2
Thank you for your question. The Hatchery Kit comes with three packs of hatch mix. At this time, it is not recommended splitting the package in half, as the mix contains a proportionate amount to salt to eggs. If the package should be split in half, shake the mix up, and use half the recommended amount of water. It is recommended to store any unused portion in a cool, dark, dry place.

Question

How many feedings will one paqckage of Hatch mix supply?

I have 2 tanks - 1 community (7 fish, will probably double this week) and 1 Betta w/ a single fish.

I plan on feeding live brine shrimp as a treat. The standard feed is Omega One flakes for the community tank and Atison's pellets for Yankee the Betta. I occasionally feed frozen brine shrimp and frozen bloodworns.

It depends on the size of the fish, but one pack should feed them for 3-4 days. The brine shrimp are best when they first hatch because they have their yolk sac. After a couple of days it will be gone and brine shrimp will just be filler.

answer 2
Thank you for your question. Depending on the amount and size of the fish , it can vary from a single feeding to 10 feedings. If the 7 fish are approximately 1-3 inches in size, they can devour the baby shrimp in 1-2 feedings.

Question

How many SFB hatcheries do I need & what's the best feed/hatching strategy?

Let's assume/hope that I am able to breed 10 different species of gouramis at the same time in 10 different breeding tanks. How many SFB hatcheries do I need to support this many fry? What would be the best strategy for making sure they all get enough to eat?

I start with 1 for 1 batch of angel fry then switch to 2 and starting every 2 days or every other depending on the size of the fry. So assuming you will have ten tanks of fry I would probably get at least 10 for after they have grown a little.

Question

confused on the instructions for harvesting shrimp.

Instructions refer to putting a light on the bottom of the bottle. The lower end of the bottle which is the "top" of the bottle that would have the screw on top? How to harvest? With a net or air tube?

I start with the light at the base where the bottle is screwed in. Then I disconnect the airline from the pump and keep it above the water level for about 5 minutes. Then I take the end of the airline and run the shrimp into a brine shrimp net. After I get the amount of shrimp I want I replace the airline on the pump. Then since my fish are fresh water I give the shrimp a quick rinse under the faucet and feed my fish.

answer 2
Thank you for your question. To harvest the baby brine shrimp, please follow the instructions below:
◦Unplug air pump (keep pump above water surface)
◦Wait approximately 5-10 minutes for babies to swim towards the light at the bottom of the bottle and for the shells to float to the top.
◦Remove airline tubing from pump (keeping above water surface).
◦Slowly lower the air tubing over a brine shrimp net to strain babies from water.
◦Rinse babies under cool tap water to remove salt.
◦Feed to your fish.
